Funky Jumper Banger is a Red Catuaí microlot from Fazenda do Salto in Carmo da Cachoeira, Sul de Minas. The 800-hectare estate sits at 1,150 metres and is run by Otávio Reis, the fifth generation of a family that has grown coffee for 100 years.
This lot is fermented semi-anaerobically, which gives it a funky, fruity character. Expect ripe plum, raisin and orange, with a brown rum note that turns boozy as espresso. We roast it light, so the fruit stays up front.
Otávio's approach is methodical and terroir-conscious. Natural coffees dry for 15 to 20 days on wide patios before they finish in rotary dryers. Pulped naturals (honey) get less patio time and precise machine drying. Besides Red Catuaí, the farm grows Yellow Catucaí, Bourbon, Rubi, Icatu, Mundo Novo, Arara and Topázio.
As filter coffee (V60, Chemex, AeroPress) it is lively and fruit-forward. As espresso it is bold and boozy, with the brown rum note in front.
Microlot. Direct trade. Traceable to the farm.

Discover the journey of our coffee from the lush farms of Brazil to your cup in Amsterdam. Each bean carries the story of the farmers who cultivate it with care, the terroir that shapes its flavor, and the direct relationships we've built to bring you truly exceptional coffee.
In anaerobic fermentation, coffee cherries ferment in closed tanks with little or no oxygen. In a semi-anaerobic process, only part of the fermentation happens without oxygen.
Controlling the oxygen steers the fermentation, which brings out intense fruity and boozy flavours.
A microlot is a small lot of coffee from one farm that is picked and processed separately. That keeps its own character intact and makes it traceable to the farm.
Because the quantity is limited, a microlot is only available for a short time.
